Grace Bible Church of Oklahoma City announces its 2008 Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield Memorial Lecture Series to be held May 9, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This year's keynote speaker will be Alliance Council Member Dr. Gene Edward Veith. He will discuss the topic of the Church and culture. The event will be held at the Meinders School of Business on the campus of Oklahoma City University located at 2701 N. Blackwelder in Oklahoma City.
Dr. Veith will examine the tragic proposition of why the Church looks and thinks so much like our contemporary culture. He will explore the implications of the conduct, theology, and history that have brought the Church to this current status, while reminding us that the Church is to counter or culture with our distinctive message.
Dr. Veith is a native Oklahoman and received his B.A. in Letters (Literature, Philosophy, History and Classics) from the University of Oklahoma and his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Kansas in 1979. He is an Alliance Council member and currently serves as Provost and Professor of Literature at Patrick Henry College. Dr. Veith also serves as the Director of the Cranach Institute at Concordia Theological Seminary which is dedicated to working out the implications of the Lutheran doctrine of vocation and engaging contemporary culture with the truths of the Lutheran confessions. Dr. Veith has written 17 books dealing with various aspects of Christianity and culture, and his Postmodern Times was the winner of the 1994 Christianity Today Book Award.
The auditorium at the Meinders School of Business holds approximately 250 people. You may contact Grace Bible Church at www.gbcok.org or call 405-840-2003 for additional information.
